Welcome To Paperless

Overview
Paperless is a simple but powerful app for making lists. It can help you organize your thoughts and make better use of your time.

When you start Paperless, you'll see the lists that you've created - along with the first few items from within each list.

List items are "bubbled up" to the first screen you see - and as a result, you're encouraged to move the most important things up near the top of each list. That way, you can see what's important right when you launch the app.

You can pick an icon to display next to each list - there are over 300 icons to choose from! Or, if you'd prefer to save that precious screen real estate for text, you can choose to not show an icon.

Each list has the option of being a checklist - with a checkbox button next to each item to mark the item as completed - or, a regular list with no checkboxes.

You can write a note for each item in a list, just like the note you're reading now.

Another great feature is that you can email lists to yourself or anyone.
Instructions? Just try it out!
Using Paperless should be fairly intuitive, so try it out, press the buttons, kick the proverbial tires.

If you still have questions after that, you can come back to this list for help.
Adding A List
On the opening screen, press the "plus" sign button in the top right.

From there you'll be able to name your list, decide whether or not it should show checkboxes, decide if new list items should be place at the top of the list (instead of the bottom), and choose an icon.
Deleting A List
From the opening screen, swipe your finger across the list to bring up a delete button. Tap the delete button - an alert will appear to give you a chance to change your mind before actually deleting the list.

Alternatively, you can press the edit button, then tap the red circle next to the list you wish to delete. Then press the delete button that appears.
Changing List Name and Settings
From the opening screen, tap on the list you wish to modify - then tap the list settings button in the bottom left corner (it looks like a folder with a gear over it).

From there you can change the name of your list, turn checkmarks on/off, and change the icon.

You can also turn "New Items To Top" on/off. Normally new items are posted to the bottom of a list. However, you can switch this setting to "ON" to have new items appear at the top of the list.
More On Choosing an Icon
As stated before, to choose an icon you tap the list settings button in the bottom left corner (it looks like a folder with a gear over it).

There are over 300 icons to choose from - that's quite a few to scroll through! To help find one appropriate for your list you can use the search feature. Simply tap the "Search" box near the top of the screen, and type in what you're looking for.

For example: if you're moving to a new house and want to make a list of things you need to do to prepare, you could type "moving" into the search box - which will bring up two icons: a box and a moving truck.

The small text next to each icon is a list of other search terms that the icon will match on.
Emailing A List
From the opening screen, tap on the list you want to email - then tap on the mail icon at the bottom of the screen (it looks like an envelope).

The email interface will show up, where you can type in the names/email addresses of people you want to email the list to.

There's a bit of space above the list - you can tap there to start typing in your own text to include in the email.
Duplicating A List
From the opening screen, tap on the list you want to duplicate - then tap on the List Action icon at the bottom of the screen (it looks like a folder with an arrow over it).

There you'll see a button for "Duplicate List". Simply press that button, and your list will be duplicated with "[copy]" added to the end of the list name.
Sorting A List Alphabetically
From the opening screen, tap on the list you want to duplicate - then tap on the List Action icon at the bottom of the screen (it looks like a folder with an arrow over it).

There you'll see a button for "Sort List A - Z". Simply press that button, and your list will be sorted alphabetically.

Note that if your list is a checklist, it will be sorted - but the unchecked items will remain at the top, and the checked items will remain under the "Completed" heading.
Adding A List Item
When viewing a list, simply press the plus button in the upper right corner to add an item. In the screen that appears, you'll be able to enter the item name and note.
Deleting A List Item
When viewing a list, swipe your finger across the item to bring up a delete button. Tap the delete button - an alert will appear, giving you a chance to change your mind about deleting the item. Press the delete button in that alert to permanently delete the item.

Alternatively, you can press the edit button, then tap the red circle next to the list you wish to delete. Then press the delete button that appears.

NOTE: If you'd prefer to delete items right away without the extra alert warning, you can go to the app settings screen (tap the gear icon on the main screen), and switch "Warning On Item Delete" to "OFF".
Changing A List Item's Name
When viewing a list, tap on the list item you want to change the name of - then tap the item settings button in the bottom left corner (it looks like a document with a gear over it).
Moving An Item To Another List
When viewing a list, tap on the list item you want to move - then tap the move button at bottom of the screen (it looks like a document with an arrow over it). Then select the list you want to move the item to and press the "Move" button.
Copying An Item To Another List
When viewing a list, tap on the list item you want to copy - then tap the copy button at bottom of the screen (it looks like two documents stacked up). Then select the list you want to copy the item to and press the "Copy" button.
Reordering Lists And Items
If you wish to change the order in which lists or list items appear, press the "Edit" button at the bottom of the screen. A control that looks like 3 gray lines will appear on the right side of each list/item.

Press and hold your finger on that reorder control, then slide it up or down to move the selected list/item up or down.
Deleting All Completed Items
If your list is a checklist and you've built up a bunch of completed items that you'd like to get rid of - you can delete all of them at once (much quicker than deleting each item individually).

Just press the List Action icon at the bottom of the list screen (it looks like a folder with an arrow over it) - then press the red "Delete Completed Items..." button.

Note that if your list is not a checklist, or if it's a checklist with no completed items, you won't see the "Delete Completed Items..." button there.
Searching
If you need to search for some specific text within your lists, there are two ways you can go about it:

1. If you don't know what list the text is in, scroll all the way to the top of the opening screen where you'll see a Search box. Type in the word/phrase you're looking for to bring up results showing lists that contain that text. That search feature checks list names, item names and item notes for matches.

Tip: if you tap the status bar on your iPhone (the bar that shows the time, your cellular/wifi connection levels and battery level) - you'll automatically scroll all the way to the top.

2. If you know what list the text is in, select the list from the opening screen - then scroll to the very top where you'll see a Search box. Type in the word/phrase you're looking for to bring up results showing items that contain that text. This search feature checks item names and item notes for matches.
Setting The App Number Badge
If you’d like a quick way to keep track of how many things you need to do, you can display a number badge on the Paperless app icon.

To turn this feature on, tap the app settings icon (looks like a gear) on the main screen - then tap "Number Badge". From there you can select any checklists you want to be included in the number badge count. Note that only items that have NOT been completed are included in the count.

The list(s) you choose here will also be marked with a green triangle in their upper left corner on the main screen. Also, the number of incomplete items is displayed before the items preview.
This list was created using "Paperless", an awesome iPhone app for making lists and organizing your thoughts.
